Occupying the site of a former commercial building Blakes Hotel is a 85 bedroom 5-star boutique hotel in the rapidly evolving urban landscape and creative centre of Shoreditch. Compromising of 14 floors overall, this challenging project incorporates 4 floors of basement level to provide the high level of FOH and facilities, attributable to a 5-star hotel, on a tight and constrained corner site. Two floors of office accommodation have been incorporated at 1st and 2nd floor level, accessed from a shared entrance hub at street level.
With a secant piled basement solution, the buildings above ground structure compromises of a reinforced concrete frame and core to 9th floor level. The stepped RC frame forms a series of roof terraces at upper levels. The materiality of the building, incorporating a palette of brickwork piers, large panels of Crittall style glazing and metal framed curtain walling, reflects the strong industrial heritage of the area and sensitively emulates the Victorian warehouse typology that once defined this area, within a modern and minimalist approach.
